Willie McCoy, 73, husband of Geneva Hayward McCoy, died on Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born June 6, 1935, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Jimmy and Darkis Davis McCoy. He received his education in the public schools of Sumter County. Willie married his wife, Geneva Hayward McCoy, in July 1956, then moved to Philadelphia, Pa. Willie was employed by ITW/Philadelphia Resin as their first employee, where he worked for 38 years. He retired in 1997 after a successful career. Mr. Willie, as he was affectionately known, peddled socks and shoes all over Sumter County. He was always jovial and accommodating to all he encounter. His smile and jokes kept everyone laughing.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Geneva McCoy; his daughter, Velda McCoy; sons, Talbert McCoy and Jeffrey McCoy; grandson, Wesley McCoy; a brother, Ben Davis (Marie); seven sisters, Ella Rose Hayward (Samuel), Maggie Skipper, Edith McCoy and Sarah Edwards of Sumter, Mary Jane McCoy and Kathleen Green of Philadelphia and Mary Ann McCoy of Newark, N.J.; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and associates.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; and five brothers, Frank Davis, Malichia Davis, Jimmy McCoy, Dave McCoy and Jerimiah Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today from Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 155 Wall St., Sumter, with the Rev. Larry C. Weston, pastor, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Kenneth Choice and the Rev. James N. Jackson.

The family will receive friends at the home, 2290 Clematis Trail, Sumter.

The remains will be placed in the church at noon.

The funeral procession will leave the home at 12:30 p.m.

Floral bearers and pallbearers will be family and friends.

Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Sumter.
