IDA GWENDOLYN MIXSON QUACKENBUSH

Ida Gwendolyn Mixson Quackenbush entered her eternal rest on Aug. 1, 2024. Gwen was born May 15, 1934, in Sheldon, South Carolina, to Hugh and Gertrude Mixson. She is survived by her brother B. H. Mixson of Sheldon. She’s also survived by one son, Howie (Kathy), of Moore, South Carolina, and one daughter, Terry (A. J.), of Asheville, North Carolina, two grandchildren, Chris Burke (Courtney) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Lauren Burke (Jack) of Angier, North Carolina; and one great-grandchild, Graham Burke.

Gwen graduated from the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Columbia. She retired from National Healthcare in Sumter, where she was a registered nurse. She was a gifted caregiver. She not only cared for her patients, but she also took care of many neighbors and friends in the community.

Gwen loved fishing, cooking, gardening and yard work. She was also a “Mrs. Fixit.” She also had a green thumb.
She also loved her family and gave selflessly to them.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. in Sandhills Baptist Church Cemetery in Cummins, South Carolina.
