A woman has been taken into custody in connection to the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old man on Sunday morning.

Before 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, officers responded to a Putter Drive residence where they found a woman inside and a man lying on the floor with a gunshot wound, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for Sumter Police Department.

Antoin Pugh, 34, of the residence, was treated at the scene and taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital where he died. Next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, according to Sumter Coroner Robbie Baker.

According to information gathered, Pugh and Jasmine Symone Woods, 23, of another residence on Putter Drive, were in a relationship at one time. Officers believe the estranged couple were arguing before shots were fired, McGirt said.

Woods was charged with murder and taken into custody. She is booked at Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

An investigation is ongoing.
