Sumter coroner, police investigate shooting that left 1 dead

Sumter County Coroner’s Office and Sumter Police Department are investigating a separate shooting that left one dead.

The shooting occurred at about 7 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18.

Antoin Pugh, 34, of Sumter, was pronounced dead at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital from injuries he sustained from an apparent gunshot, according to Coroner Robbie Baker. The shooting is isolated from the shooting at Sleep Inn that occurred hours prior, Baker added.

Next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
