Robert Singleton, 75, was born on Dec. 8, 1944, in Sumter, to the late Flossie Singleton and Robert Cooper. Robert departed this life on Sunday, April 26, 2020, to gain his resting place.

Robert attended Lincoln High School, where he played basketball and football. He received a scholarship for basketball. He acquired the nickname "Loopy Loop" because of his basketball skills. In 1964, Robert moved to New York City, where he worked in the garment district, Frito-Lay factory. He also worked in Lincoln Hospital as a security guard, where he retired in the 1990s.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Mamie Singleton; his children, Sharon Neely, Patricia Robertson, Valerie Singleton, Robert Singleton Jr., Leticia Singleton, Nathaniel Singleton, Katherine Singleton and Renee Singleton Jones; a sister, Helen Peterson; a brother, Leroy Singleton; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, Freddy Singleton, Albert Linton Jr., Joseph Singleton and Mathew Singleton; and a grandson, John Lightner II.

A memorial service for the community/public is being planned.
