James B. Housend, 80, of DeLand, Fla., died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005.

Mr. Housend was born in Sumter and moved to DeLand in 1952 from Tulsa, Okla. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a retired pilot for American Airlines. He was also a hunting and fishing guide, a taxidermist and a finishing contractor. He also enjoyed telling stories. He was a past president of the Shrine Temple in DeLand, past president of the Masonic Temple and a member of the Lake Beresford Yacht Club in DeLand.

Mr. Housend was a member of Shriner's Hospital For Crippled Children, 12502 Pine Drive, North Tampa, FL 33612.

He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Clausen of DeLand, Barbara Suiter of Newton, Iowa, and Deborah Housend of DeLand; three stepdaughters, Jan Paul of Marathon, Fla., Donna Thompson of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Ann Hammes of Campbellsport, Wis.; three stepsons, John Ford, Roy Ford and Rick Ford; 29 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 12502 Pine Drive, North Tampa, FL 33612.

Lankford Funeral Homes and Crematory of DeLand is in charge of arrangements.
