Two suspects wanted in connection to the killing of Jaquen Jefferson turned themselves in on Wednesday morning.

Terone Justin McCray, 35, and Nia Laprece Wright, 28, both of Rembert, surrendered to Sumter County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday after they allegedly shot and killed 32-year-old Jaquen Marquell Jefferson on Sunday, Aug. 4, according to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

They were reportedly arguing with Jefferson before they made threats, assaulted him and shot him in the parking lot of a business, Bordeaux said. Jefferson was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, where he died.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis commended Sumter deputies and U.S. Marshals Service for their work that brought the suspects out of hiding.

“The suspects' actions Sunday morning not only forever changed the lives of Mr. Jefferson and his family but also their lives,” Dennis said.

McCray and Wright were taken to Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center, where they are awaiting a  bond hearing.

The investigation continues, and anyone with information that may be helpful is asked to call Sumter County Sheriff's Office at (803) 436-2000.
