Sumter coroner releases name of 16-year-old shooting victim in Dalzell

Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker has released the name of the 16-year-old who was fatally shot on Tuesday night.

Jayvion Jones, 16, of Hampton, Georgia, was pronounced dead on scene from injuries he sustained from an apparent gunshot wound, according to Baker.

Jones was found at around 8:30 p.m. on Black River Road and Edens Road in Dalzell inside a vehicle.

Next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy has been scheduled for Saturday at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

An investigation is ongoing by Sumter County Coroner’s Office and Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
