Rembert man arrested after allegedly striking, trying to strangle woman with children present

Thomer C. Robinson, 23, of U.S. 15 North, Rembert, was arrested and charged with domestic violence-first degree, according to a news release from Mark Bordeaux, public information officer with Sumter County Sheriff's Office.

Robinson is accused of forcing himself into a woman’s room and striking and attempting to strangle her in the presence of her children.

Sumter County Dispatch received a call at approximately 1:27 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, reporting a domestic incident at a motel near North Main Street. Deputies responded to the scene and were met by someone who stated she was a victim of abuse.

The victim alleged that Robinson kicked in the door of the room and assaulted her while holding her  down next to their three young children. The victim also said an employee of the motel came and made the suspect stop the assault.

Deputies detained Robinson during their investigation. After taking his statement, interviewing witnesses and observing evidence, deputies informed Robinson he was under arrest for domestic violence.

Robinson was transported to Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing.
