Sumter sheriff’s office launches investigation into 'suspicious death' in Dalzell

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation after a shooting that left one dead and another injured.

A shooting that occurred Tuesday night, Sept. 3, in Dalzell resulted in one person pronounced dead at the scene and another who was shot and transported to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. According to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for the sheriff’s office, the second victim is expected to make a full recovery.

Information on the deceased will be released once next of kin has been notified.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis described the incident as a “suspicious death,” and the investigation is in the initial stages. Every resource available is being used to gather the facts, he said.
