Joan Nancy Ramstad Simenson, 89, widow of Lt. Col. Thomas David “Dave” Simenson, USAF retired, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, at NHC Healthcare-Sumter.

Born Nov. 2, 1934, in Superior, Wisconsin, she was a daughter of the late Hjalmer John Ramstad and Winifred Mary Bruno Ramstad. Mrs. Simenson was a member of Swan Lake Presbyterian Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading and sailing and was a gifted writer of letters and cards.

Survivors include two sons, Tim Simenson and Todd Simenson (Tina), both of Sumter; two grandchildren, Ashley Simenson Tolbert (Brian) and Amy Simenson Chua (Scotty); four great-grandchildren, Spencer Chua, Ellie Tolbert, Audrey Chua and Weston Tolbert; two brothers-in-law, Dan Simenson (Florence) of Whidbey Island, Washington, and John Simenson (Mary) of Superior, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Judith Berman of Wilmington, Delaware; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery John Simenson, and a sister, Eileen Tyson.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Swan Lake Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Chuck Staggs officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
