Letter to the editor: We should support Sumter schools' superintendent

Hypocrisy is when someone pretends to have beliefs, opinions, virtues or feelings that they do not actually possess. It is often seen as a form of deceit because the person's actions contradict their stated beliefs or values. For example, if someone advocates for education but frequently engages in activities that harm education, they might be considered hypocritical.

The Bible addresses the issue of comparing oneself to others in several places. One notable verse is 2 Corinthians 10:12, which says: "Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding." The verse emphasizes the importance of focusing on one's own actions and responsibilities rather than comparing oneself to others, which can lead to envy and misunderstanding.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famously addressed the unfairness of expecting people to succeed without the necessary resources. He said: "It's all right to tell a man to lift himself by his own bootstraps, but it is a cruel jest to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps." We should take the above in consideration when the school takes its final vote on removing the 50% grading system that other states use.

In the past, Sumter School District head football coach who won the state championship. The young men's basketball coach won the state championship. It cost the district nearly a hundred thousand dollars to replace the last superintendent two years ago. The young ladies won the state championship and were not given the keys to the city. Now here we go again in Sumter.

The last school board meeting, the superintendent was praised for his leadership for getting the district its five-year accreditation. I urge adults with or without children to attend the next several school board meetings to make sure that our superintendent gets a commendable rating, a contract extension and increase in pay.
