Letter to the editor: Don't invite anything into your life that can harm you

Posted

Once again, a friend of mine has called and informed me of a cancer diagnosis. I had to hold my first reply back, which was, "Smoking causes cancer. What did you expect, the flu?' There are many sicknesses out there that can attack all of us. But there are things we do to encourage some of these afflictions. Smoking or vaping is a nasty habit that produces nothing but misery in the end. MUSC has shown that consumption of alcoholic beverages can cause breast cancer in women. Both smoking and alcohol are poisons, so why would you want to put them in your body? Riding your motorcycle may make you feel so free. But if you get hit by a car, truck, even an animal, you may pay a hefty price. At least my car does have four walls for some protection. Go to the doctor's office and see mostly overweight folk sitting in there. In church, there are many saints overweight and can barely move around. I do not think this is the way it was meant to be. We all need to take responsibility for our actions and habits. Even some places we go. Why go to a night club? Nothing redeeming going on in there. Just foolishness. There are so many things out there waiting to attack us, so why invite them in?
