Richard Porcher Sr., 90, was born on May 8, 1929, to the late Marion Sr. and Eva Rembert Porcher. He was affectionately known as "Mr. Spike."

He departed this life on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was married to the late Rebecca Lonnon Porcher.

He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, he joined St. Mark Four Bridges Baptist Church. He worked for Georgia-Pacific for many years, until it went out of business, and from there he went to work for Sumter Casket Co.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a son, Richard Porcher Jr.; four daughters, Deloris Lonnon, Angela (Tommie) Davis and Katrina Porcher, all of Sumter, and Michelle (Rodney) Porcher of Fort Pierce, Florida; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary (Marion) Carter of Palmetto, Florida; four brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; a host of special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 861 Carolina Ave., Apartment 59, Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at St. Mark 4B Missionary Baptist Church, 2280 Four Bridges Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Sammie Simmons, pastor, eulogist.

The remains will be placed in the church at noon for viewing until the hour of service.

The funeral procession will leave at 12:20 p.m. from the home.

Burial will follow at St. Mark 4B Missionary Baptist Churchyard Cemetery, Sumter.
