SLED has charged a woman and a deputy after an altercation at a baseball game in March.
The incident occurred at the conclusion of a baseball game at Pee Dee Academy in Mullins on March 25.
According to a warrant, Deputy George Page, 64, placed a juvenile in a headlock while attempting to place him under arrest for disorderly conduct.
While in the headlock, the juvenile stepped on Page’s foot with his cleat on multiple occasions. Page then struck the juvenile against the right side of his head with a department-issued taser, according to a warrant.
During the altercation, Kathryn Atkinson, 44, grabbed the juvenile’s clothing in an attempt to separate him from Page during the arrest. She also placed herself between Page and another juvenile who was being arrested, drawing a larger crowd.
Page was charged with third-degree assault and battery and Atkinson with breach of peace, according to SLED.
Both were booked into Marion County Detention Center.
The case will be prosecuted by the 12th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
