Arrest made in fatal shooting at Lee County truck stop

Lee County Sheriff’s Office has one person in custody after a woman was fatally shot at a truck stop on Sunday night.

At about 9 p.m. on Sept. 28, deputies responded to a shooting incident at Pilot Truck Stop on Sumter Highway near Bishopville. Upon arrival, a female was found deceased inside a vehicle with a suspected gunshot wound, according to the sheriff's office. An identity of the female has not been released until next of kin has been notified. 

An arrest was made on Monday, Sept. 29. Derrick Scott Sr., 34, of Little River, was charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and unlawful conduct toward a child, according to the sheriff’s office.

Scott Sr. is being held at Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center awaiting bond. 

An investigation is ongoing.
