In one additional meeting before Election Day next week, the current Sumter school board will meet tonight, Monday, Oct. 26, for the superintendent’s annual evaluation.

Superintendent Gerald Gary’s contract calls for an annual evaluation by the board with the initial meeting for the first year of the contract to be held this fall, and a district staff member posted the agenda online on Friday afternoon.

As is standard, the evaluation process will be in executive session and behind closed doors.

When the full board returns to open session it may make a statement regarding Gary’s evaluation. If the evaluation is completed tonight, there will likely be a statement on the full board’s grading of the superintendent based on other district leaders' evaluations in recent years.

Tonight’s meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the district office, 1345 Wilson Hall Road.

After board Chairman Shawn Ragin’s opening remarks and the approval of the agenda, the board will enter into the closed session.

Public participation is not an agenda item.

For those not physically attending, the district continues to broadcast meetings live on YouTube.

Anyone wanting to attend the meeting virtually can do so via YouTube Sumter School District Board Meeting and the district’s Facebook page, @SumterSCSchools.
