MANNING — Maryalice Louden Hoyt, 87, wife of John “Jack” Claxton Hoyt, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, at Pocotaligo River Health & Rehab.

Born Sept. 19, 1936, in Anderson, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Robert Hadley Louden and Frances Kurtz Louden. Maryalice graduated from Gulf Park College in Mississippi and was a 1958 graduate of the University of Colorado. She was a member of the PEO, DAR, Phi Kappa Phi and the Presbyterian Church at Manning, where she served as an elder and was a member of the choir, hand bell choir and the Presbyterian Church Bridge Club.

Maryalice was an accomplished harpist and often performed at the church and community events. She was a descendant of John Howland, who came from England on the Mayflower to Plymouth.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years of Manning; a daughter, Happy Oasis of Prescott, Arizona; a son, Robert Hoyt of Manning; a son-in-law, Bill Furse of Manning; two grandsons, Jack Furse (Lisa) of Sumter and Will Furse (Susan Hayne) of Manning; three great-grandchildren, Fox Furse, Hattie Furse and Ruthie Furse; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Furse, and a brother, Robert Louden.
A graveside service will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, at Manning Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, at the Presbyterian Church at Manning with the Rev. Dr. Charles Jarred “J” Hammet Jr. officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church fellowship hall.
