Letter to the editor: If you pay any tax, you should be able to vote in elections

Posted

A while ago I wrote a letter to The Item about if you don't pay taxes you shouldn't have the right to vote.

Well it looks like what I wrote, a anti-Trump didn't like it. He wrote in and said, "Trump didn't pay taxes one year and bragged about it." I doubt President Trump didn't pay any tax that year and may even got a refund. But like me he had money withheld from his pay, and that's paying taxes. If he did indeed not, then sir, you are correct. He shouldn't have the right to vote.

I still think if you paid any tax to the IRS, the state or the city, you have the right to vote in that election. If you did not, you don't have that right.
