Apparent domestic incident in Manning results in death of 28-year-old Sumter man; woman charged with manslaughter

MANNING – A 27-year-old Sumter woman has been arrested in connection to the Tuesday, July 2, death of a 28-year-old Sumter man at a Ram Bay motel.

Carrie Anastasia Woodberry is being held at the Clarendon County Detention Center. She has been charged with manslaughter.

According to the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office, on July 2, deputies responded to Quality Inn on Paxville Highway in reference to a gunshot victim. Deputies reported observing “a black male victim with an apparent gunshot wound lying on the upper landing of the second-floor stairwell." Upon arrival at the scene, deputies also reported that Woodberry, who was in possession of a handgun, was detained.

The Clarendon County Coroner’s Office determined that the victim, Abram Bernardo Walker Jr., was deceased. Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell said an autopsy was conducted on Walker on Friday, July 5.

The CCSO said the incident “appears to be a domestic violence-related incident between Woodberry and Walker.”
