Santee-Lynches Regional Council of Governments has diverse partnerships across Sumter, Clarendon, Lee and Kershaw counties – including with Sumter County Regional HOME Consortium. Its Tenant-Based Rental Assistance Program application process started March 16 and is open through March 31 for low- to moderate-income residents in Sumter, Clarendon, Lee and Kershaw counties.
The program’s goal is to “help meet the needs of locals in financial crisis” and “provide stability and prevent homelessness.” Section 8/Public Housing tenants are not eligible to apply, according to the website. Applicants must have a one-year lease, meet household income requirements of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and meet one of the following criteria: be 18 years or older, married or a military veteran or have at least one dependent.
Individuals selected after a 30- to 90-day application process that includes unit inspections and closes on March 31 will receive up to $500 assistance for a year. This is one of many community resources Santee-Lynches COG offers across areas like workforce development, aging, housing and health care.
“You can find our recent updates on our Facebook page Santee-Lynches Regional Council of Governments and our website,” Shekia S. Harvin, HOME Coordinator, relayed via email. “After a certain time, we remove certain events and public hearings from our website; however, we do keep it updated with current events.”
