Applications for Sumter Habitat for Humanity's Homeownership Program are now open.
This application season is for both the traditional homeownership program and the senior cottage homeownership program.
The two programs differ in size, with the senior cottage being an approximately 650-square-foot cottage with one bedroom and one bathroom and is for applicants - either single or couple - ages 55 and up. The traditional home is a 1,000- to 1,200-square-foot, three-bedroom and two-bathroom home.
Those interested in either program can start with the first step: attending the information session.
There are two options to complete this step. Option No. 1 is to sign up to attend an in-person information presentation. There are limited dates and seating for this presentation, and all persons attending must sign up separately. No children are permitted.
Dates available for in-person sessions are Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Sept. 11 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Option No. 2 is to complete the self-guided information presentation PowerPoint and brief quiz. The 30-page slideshow will summarize details about the program homes, applicant qualifiers and participant requirements. Self-guided presentations are available until Sept. 19.
The self-guided presentation concludes with a brief quiz on the material. Seven out of 10 questions must be correct to complete the quiz.
After completing the in-person session or the online quiz, an application packet and further instruction for next steps on applying with be given out.
