SCDOT to hold public open house Aug. 6 about corridor improvement project in Sumter County

Posted

COLUMBIA - South Carolina Department of Transportation will hold an open house public information meeting about corridor improvements along the S.C. 763 (West Liberty Street) corridor, extending from U.S. 76 Business (North Washington Street) to near S.C. 120 (Alice Drive) in Sumter.

According to DOT, "The purpose of the project is to improve operational efficiency along the West Liberty Street corridor from Washington Street to Alice Drive."

"Between North Washington Street and Guignard Drive (US 521), the existing four-lane and five-lane roadway segments would be reconfigured into a continuous three-lane roadway with one travel lane in each direction and a center two-way left-turn lane. From Guignard Drive to Alice Drive, the existing five-lane roadway would remain in place.

"Proposed improvements along the West Liberty Street corridor include lane restriping, pavement surface upgrades, and updates to traffic signal timing and phasing to improve traffic flow.

"Additionally, intersection modifications would be made at Bland Avenue (minor intersection geometry updates) and at Alice Drive at West Liberty Street (improvements to turning movements)."

The open house will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Meeting House at Memorial Park, 112 N. Salem Ave., Sumter. There will not be a formal presentation. Attendees will have the opportunity during the meeting to review preliminary plans for the proposed project and provide feedback.
