Richard Linville, age 59, passed into the gates of his Heavenly Father after a short illness on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Hahira, Georgia, on Feb. 15, 1967, Richard was the son of Dave Linville and Runette, known most as (Scooter) Linville. He was always ready to help his parents and anyone else in need, offering support with a sweet and kind spirit. Richard and his uncle, Mike Awtrey, were devoted UGA fans. He owned nearly every piece of UGA merchandise and every jersey available, making his home look like a UGA store. He loved his Georgia Dawgs!
Richard started his work career on the work program at Manning Christian High School at Bojangles in Sumter. From there, he advanced to the YMCA in the men's fitness center, where he advanced to massage training with them. He attended USC at night for two years while also working at the YMCA. He acquired a position at UPS as a package truck loader and unloader. After his training period with UPS, he advanced to a package truck driver. He finished his career with UPS after 37 years. He was sole owner of Dolphin Pools for many years before health concerns forced him to retire.
Richard spent three years in Germany, where he learned German in school. While living there, he visited several countries, but Austria was his favorite because it was where he learned to ski. He enjoyed many exciting adventures overseas. His favorite saying was, “I’ve gotten to go and do things most people only dream of.”
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, David Linville (Crystal) of Alcolu, S.C.; one aunt, Robin Awtrey (Mike); two uncles, Ed Travelstead and Mike McGee (Rebecca); one great-aunt, Frankie, of San Antonio, Florida; and many cousins. He loved his family to the fullest anyone could ever ask of him, and they all loved him dearly as well as many friends, some from as long as his high school years. He will be loved and missed by those that knew him best, especially his family. Rest easy, our dear Richard. We all know he is finally at peace from the trials he faced here on this side. He walked on the streets of concrete here only three short weeks ago, and in an instant, he was walking on streets of gold with Jesus.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home.
You may go to www.bullockfuneralhome.com and sign the family’s guest book.
