Coroner releases identity of 22-year-old shooting victim; investigation ongoing by Sumter County Sheriff’s Office

Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker released the name of the woman fatally shot on Wednesday night.

At about 9:26 p.m. on March 18, 22-year-old Ladea Barnes, of Sumter, was pronounced dead on scene after a shooting along U.S. 15 South, according to Baker. 

Next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

An investigation is ongoing by the coroner’s office and Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
