The Wilson Hall and Thomas Sumter girls tennis programs hit the court in the SCISA state tournament this week, with Wilson Hall facing Porter-Gaud in the 4A bracket on Tuesday, while Thomas Sumter faced Palmetto Christian in the Division I bracket on Monday. Both squads fell short of advancing to the semifinals.
Wilson Hall fell 5-1. Their lone victory came in No. 2 singles, where Harper Burke defeated Isabella Stanec 6-4, 6-4. Claudia Rhodus fell 2-6, 0-6, Land Stevens fell 2-6, 3-6, Cameron Kohl lost 2-6, 1-6, Grace McArthur lost 0-6, 1-6, and Carson Giddens fell 2-6, 5-7.
Thomas Sumter lost a heartbreaker 5-4, winning four of the six singles matches before a narrow sweep in doubles. Emma Jackson defeated Kathleen Clark 6-2, 6-2, while Marlana Lee beat Jane Clark 6-2, 6-1. Amy Spivey pulled out a 6-4, 7-5 win over Avery Anacleto. Lollie Hawkins beat Adleigh Lollis 6-1, 6-3. Sara Claire Reid put up an incredible fight against Teagan Delaney, battling back after a 1-6 loss in the first game to win the second game 6-6 (7-4), but lost a tense tiebreaker 8-10. Peyton Triplett fell 1-6, 2-6 at No. 6 singles.
In doubles, all three matches were competitive. Jackson and Lee fell 4-8, while the duos of Spivey and Hawkins, and Reid and Triplett fell by matching scores of 6-8.
