WILLIAM J. BOUCHER

William Joseph "Bill" Boucher, 70, beloved husband of Thea Green Boucher, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, following a seven-month battle with gastric cancer. Bill was the widower of Marleen Lee Boucher, mother of Michelle and Ken, who passed away in 1999.

Bill was born Dec. 7, 1940, in New York City, son of the late Andrea Beaudoin Boucher and the late Joseph Boucher. The family relocated to Hartford, Conn., in his infancy, and then to Collinsville, Conn., where Bill attended local schools, graduating from Canton High School in 1958. Between school and jobs setting pins at the local bowling alley and working for Howard Johnson's Restaurant to help support the family, Bill spent every possible moment participating in baseball, football and basketball. His passion for baseball continued throughout his life, and his loyalty to the Boston Red Sox never wavered. Even in the bad years, winning the World Series twice made it all worth it.

Bill will be remembered as a gentleman always, with a love for old fashioned values, good manners and a strong work ethic. He began his adult working career in the offices of UPS in Hartford, then moved on to work at Texaco in East Hartford. That job led to his 24-year career as a sales representative, sales manager and vice president of Standard Cycle and Auto Supply Company in Winsted, Conn. When his division at SCASCO was sold, he worked for Drake Petroleum in Rhode Island until his retirement. Bill also served in the National Guard.

Besides his loving wife, Thea, Bill is survived by his daughter, Michelle Boucher Weiner and her husband, David; his son Kenneth Boucher and his wife, Joyce; and six beloved grandchildren, Alec, Caleb and Max Weiner, and Kayla, Ciara, and Evan Boucher; he is also survived by his brother, Robert Boucher of Wallingford, Conn.; and his sister, Deborah Boucher Wells and her husband, Doug, of Greenwich, Conn.; several nephews and a niece. He also leaves his constant canine companion, Lucy.

The family would like to thank all of his friends in Connecticut and his adopted town of Manning for their love and support throughout his illness, especially Canton High School's Class of 1958, whose constant cards, letters and e-mails kept us going.

Contributions in Bill's memory can be sent to the Marion County Animal Shelter (PAWS), P.O. Box 931, Mullins, S.C. 29574.
