SUMMERTON - William Gregg "Billy" Frierson, 77, husband of Ann Richardson Frierson, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born Feb. 13, 1933, in High Point, N.C., he was a son of the late Louis Gilland Frierson and the late Roma Patterson Frierson. He was a member of the Clarendon Hall School Hall of Fame, the Summerton Athletic Club, the Block "C" Club, and he lettered four years in baseball at the University of South Carolina. He was a former member of the Lions Club, the Jaycees, and he was a Mason. He was a member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Summerton where he served on the Vestry for many years.

Survivors besides his wife of Summerton include two sons, Hervey Frierson and Gill Frierson, both of Summerton; two granddaughters, Ann Marie Frierson and Rebecca Frierson, both of Summerton; a sister-in-law, Shirley J. Frierson of Sugar Grove, N.C.; a brother-in-law, James Phillips of Ozark, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, William Gregg Frierson; a daughter, Marie Frierson; a brother, Alfred Frierson; and a sister, Joan Phillips.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at the St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Summerton with the Very Reverend David W.T. Thurlow officiating. Burial followed in Summerton Evergreen Cemetery.

Al Phillips, John Frierson, Terry Danner, John Bell, Shelby Weeks and Randy Garrett served as pallbearers.

Officials of the South Carolina Independent School's Association served as honorary pallbearers.
