William Douglas Cousar, 77, husband of Eve Blackwell Cousar, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at his home in Manning.

Born June 25, 1933, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Nelson Rudolph and Ruth Durden Cousar. He was a graduate of Black River High School and Presbyterian College. He was a Navy veteran. He was the owner of Clarendon Insurance Agency and a member of Sardinia Presbyterian Church.

Survivors besides his wife include a son, Michael Durden (Carrie) Cousar of Anderson; a daughter, Renee Cousar (Doug) Benefield of Charleston; a brother, Wayne (Gladys) Cousar of Beaufort; and seven grandchildren, Ben Carnell, John Carnell, Eva Benefield, Davis Cousar, Anne Douglas Cousar, Caroline Cousar and Ella Cate Cousar.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at the Presbyterian Church at Manning with the Rev. Dr. William J. Holmes officiating. Burial followed in Sardinia-Gable Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Gordon Reed and the Rev. Murray Gibbons officiating.

Jay Drake, Jim Black, Billy Geddings, Sammy Plowden and grandsons, Davis Cousar, Ben Carnell and John Carnell, served as pallbearers.

Ollen Rose, Cutter Epps, Bill Blacklege, Joe Dabbs, Bobby Thompson and Dan Ethridge served as honorary pallbearers.

The family received friends following the service in the Sardinia Presbyterian Church fellowship hall.
