WALTER O. BARFIELD

Walter O'Connell Barfield, 47, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter County, he was the firstborn son of Walter and Rosa Lee Johnson Barfield. He graduated from Mayewood High School in 1981 and learned auto mechanic skills in Charlotte, N.C. He was formerly employed by Goodwin Buick, Santee Print Works and GoldKist Co. He was a lifelong member of Westminster Presbyterian Church (USA), where he was a member of the Sunday school, youth and mass choirs.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Glenn Lydell Barfield; paternal grandparents, Harry and Rebecca Barfield; and maternal grandparents, Clifton and Dollie Johnson.

Survivors besides his parents include a sister, Glenda (Lawrence) McKnight; a brother, Christopher (Mary) Barfield; four nephews; and two nieces.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 9124 Plowden Mill Road, Alcolu, with the moderator, the Rev. Gloria J. Williams, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Franklin Colclough, the Rev. Dr. Ella Busby, the Rev. Dr. Ernest Jackson and the Rev. Herbert Shackleford. Interment followed in Barfield Cemetery.

The family received friends at the home, 4400 Relief Road, Alcolu.
