NEW ZION - Thomas Allen Duke, 75, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown.

Mr. Duke was born Nov. 12, 1935, in New Zion, a son of the late Willard Wesley and Gladys Gibbons Duke. He was a 1953 graduate of East Clarendon High School. He was a farmer, a farm equipment salesman, and had worked for Sprott Oil, Palmetto Ice and Triangle Ice. Mr. Duke was a member of Midway Presbyterian Church, where he had served as treasurer, Sunday school superintendent, an elder, and a member of the Men of the Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet L. Duke.

Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memories are: his wife, Frankie White Duke of New Zion; two daughters, Wyndie (Tracy) D. Yarborough of Coward and Tammie (Terry) D. Taylor of New Zion; a son, Timothy (Mary) Allen Duke of New Zion; a stepson, Kevin (Crystal) Legrand Smith of New Zion; seven grandchildren, Brandon Michael Taylor, Brittany Amber Taylor, Katie Leigh Yarborough, Corey Brooke Smith, Kelsey Olivia Yarborough, Robert Allen Duke and Kirby Tyler Smith; three sisters, Betty (Don) Lucas and Margaret (Emory) Cantey, both of Florence, and Jackie (Dinky) Miles of Coward; two brothers, Ronnie (Elaine) Duke of Lamar and Rickie Duke of Florence; and a number of wonderful nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at Midway Presbyterian Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
