Sumter's Terror Trail open for the season, features 2 new attractions

Posted

Terror Trail at Second Mill opened on Friday, Oct. 9, for the spooky season.

The mile-long trail, at 1104 Old W. Liberty St., is organized and operated by Sumter Elks Lodge #855.

According to the Terror Trail website, 85% of its proceeds cover costs for items for local scouting Troop 342, like uniforms, food, camping equipment, summer camps and any other supplies they may need.

The remainder supports Sumter Elks Lodge and its educational grants. In recent years, the organization has donated more than $17,000 to Central Carolina Technical College.

The trail is self-guided with volunteer actors giving good scares throughout. Actors can cater their performance based on each group's age and requests.

The average wait time is less than 25 minutes but can increase depending on the number of visitors. No pets, wheelchairs or strollers are allowed on the trail because of the terrain. Visitors can enjoy a covered pavilion, campfires, picnic tables and concession options including hot soups, snacks, cookies, chips and hot/cold drinks while waiting.

The average time to walk the trail is 30-45 minutes.

According to Brian Davis, coordinator for the trail, this season, there are two new attractions at the trail. He kept clues of what they could be close to his chest, so visitors will have to come and experience the fun in person.

The frighteningly fun attraction will run every Friday and Saturday night, starting at 7:30 p.m., ending on the night of Halloween, Oct. 31. Tickets cost $19 per person.
