UPDATE: Sumter Walmart Supercenter reopens after power outage

UPDATE: The Sumter Walmart Supercenter is open to the public as of noon Friday, Aug. 16.

Sumter Walmart Supercenter is closed until further notice. 

Customers were turned around at the doors of the 1283 Broad St. location on Friday morning, Aug. 16, as employees shouted the store was closed because of a power outage. There is no definite time as to when the outage occurred. 

After social media posts speculated an electrical fire to be the cause, Sumter Fire Department's fire inspector visited the store. 

The inspector said there was not an electrical fire; however, the store’s register systems suffered a malfunction, and it was later learned there is an electrical breaker issue. An electrician was called to fix the issue. 

The store is closed until further notice.
