Sumter sheriff, solicitor offers $10K reward for information in shooting death of 9-year-old

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and Sumter County Solicitor’s Office offer a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shooting death of a 9-year-old boy.

Suspects face one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder after the shooting of Gregory Deron Robinson Jr., 9, on Monday, Oct. 7. He succumbed to his injuries early Wednesday morning.

According to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, suspects fired multiple gunshots into a home on Bunneau Street, striking Robinson Jr. as he lay in his bed. He was pronounced dead at Prisma Health Richland in Columbia early Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis created a task force dedicated to bringing those responsible to justice.

“We will do whatever it takes to find these criminals. Our investigators have been working non-stop, and every tool available will be utilized to solve this crime,” Dennis said in a meeting Wednesday morning. “Along with the help of the Sumter Police Department, I have requested assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). I firmly believe that we will find those responsible for Gregory’s murder and bring them to justice.”
