Sumter man wanted in connection to assault, battery on Monday, March 18

Sumter deputies are searching for a man who reportedly assaulted an individual while presenting a handgun.  

Ty’Reek Malik Samuels, 22, of South Harvin Street, is wanted on charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree assault and battery, two counts of pointing and presenting a firearm, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and felon in possession of a weapon, according to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

On March 18 in the Pinewood area, deputies responded to a home on Railroad Avenue after a domestic incident occurred on Bacon Hill Road. Witnesses at the Railroad Avenue home told deputies that Samuels, while armed and presenting a handgun, allegedly struck the victim in the face and head, Bordeaux said. Samuels allegedly continued to choke and strike the victim before fleeing with valuable items that belonged to the victim.

Samuels has a criminal history that includes a prior conviction of kidnapping in 2021 that prohibits him from possessing a firearm, Bordeaux said.

Samuels is 6 foot 5 inches tall, weighs 170 lbs. and has brown eyes and black hair.
