The Sumter County Sheriff's Office arrested three people accused of violent crimes, including assault and battery and domestic violence, on Aug. 23 and 27.

A 43-year-old Columbia man was arrested and charged with third-degree domestic violence on Aug. 23, pursuant to a warrant issued on Aug. 5, said Deputy Adrienne Sarvis, public information officer for the sheriff's office.

A warrant claims the man assaulted a female victim with an open hand to the face during a verbal altercation while on Mayrant Road on Aug. 2.

The man was transported to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center and was released on Aug. 23, Sarvis said. His bond was set at $1,500.

In a separate incident, two men, a 22-year-old of Saint Pauls Church Road and a 20-year-old of Daylilly Road in Rembert, were arrested and charged with inciting prisoners to riot and third-degree assault and battery by mob on Aug. 27, Sarvis said.

Warrants claim the pair, while housed at the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center, both conspired to commit an act of violence against another inmate on Aug. 26 when they struck the male victim about the body multiple times.

Bond was denied for both men, Sarvis said.
