Sumter coroner releases name of shooting victim in Rembert

Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker released the name of the individual who was shot Sunday morning in Rembert.

Jaquan Marquell Jefferson, 32, of Sumter, was pronounced dead at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital from an apparent gunshot wound, according to Baker.

The shooting occurred at 6 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024, in the roadway of Dinkins Mill Road in Rembert.

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and will release updates when more information is available, said SCSO Public Information Officer Mark Bordeaux.

Next of kin has been notified and an autopsy will be performed Tuesday at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

An investigation is ongoing by Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and Sumter County Coroner’s Office.
