SCHP releases information on fatal wreck involving Sumter woman

A Sumter woman died on Friday, Aug. 2,  from injuries sustained in a fatal wreck that occurred in July.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper William Bennett reported the wreck occurred Sunday, July 28, at 3:20 p.m. on U.S. 378.

The driver of a 2023 Toyota SUV was traveling north on Boots Branch Road while the driver and passenger of a 2020 Lexus SUV were traveling west on U.S. 378. The 2020 Lexus struck the 2023 Toyota at the intersection, according to Bennett.

Mary Milford Heriot, 89, of Sumter, the driver of the Toyota SUV, was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on Friday, Aug. 2, according to Sumter Coroner Robbie Baker.

The occupants of the Lexus SUV were taken to the hospital for treatment.

An investigation is ongoing by South Carolina Highway Patrol.
