SULLIVAN'S ISLAND, S.C. — Ruth Crowson Knopf, 89, widow of John Robert Knopf, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, in Charleston.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Heyward Crowson and Ruth Cain Crowson.

Mrs. Knopf was a retired head gardener at Boone Hall Plantation and was a world-renowned rosarian.

Surviving are two daughters, Caroline Knopf Stetler (Mark Stetler) and Karine Knopf; a brother, Bruz Crowson (Joanne Crowson); and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jim Chandler officiating.

Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, one hour prior to the service, at Grace Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Charleston Horticultural Society.
