Runoff set for Sumter County Council's District 1

Posted

Those who live in Sumter County Council's District 1 will have a second chance to choose their representative on June 23.

After none of three candidates for the seat, which covers west and northwest Sumter County, including Rembert, Horatio and Cherryvale, secured a majority of the votes to win outright during Tuesday's primary election on the Democratic ballot, the top two vote-getters, Carlton Washington and current Councilman Chris Sumpter, will go head to head. The winner faces no Republican opposition in November.

The precincts allowed to vote are Rembert, Horatio, Hillcrest, Delaine, Cherryvale, Manchester Forest, St. Paul and Thomas Sumter.

You can vote if you live in the district; if you did not vote in the primary but are a registered voter who lives in the district; or if you voted in the Democratic primary and live in the district.

You cannot vote in the runoff if you voted in the Republican primary, even if you live in the district.
