Rita "Retus" Canty Rosenburg White, 82, widow of Abie Rosenburg Sr., died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born July 17, 1928, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Levalle and Ella Tindal Canty. She attended Clarendon County public schools and was a member of Salem Baptist Church, until her health declined.

Survivors include three daughters, Bernice Rosenburg of Bronx, N.Y., Theola Brunson and Anna Thomas, both of Sumter; a son, Albert Rosenburg of Sumter; a brother, Wayman Canty of Sumter; daughter-in-law, Carrie Rosenburg; sister-in-law, Lucille Chatman of Tampa, Fla.; a special grandson and caregiver, Albertus Generette; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Abie Jr. and Ernest Rosenburg; three sisters, Bertha Tindal, Ida Canty and Maybell Hammett; and a brother, Louis Canty.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., with the Rev. Rodney B. James, eulogist, assisted by Pastor Willie Wright Jr. and the Rev. Constance Lane. Interment followed at Walker Cemetery.

The family received friends at the home, 722 Nelson St., Sumter.
