BEAUFORT — The Rev. Wesley A. Millard, 88, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. He was married to Dorothy Jean Branham Millard for 67 years, originally from Ashwood.
Born on July 11, 1935, he was the son of Moses Kenyon Millard and Curtis Farmer Seigler of Yonges Island.
He graduated from Clemson University in 1958 and attended Bob Jones University for two years in a Master of Divinity program. He was a retired minister and transportation engineer. He had been the pastor at Sumter Bible Church and the founder of Sumter Christian School. He was also the founding pastor of Victory Baptist Church and Beaufort Christian School in Beaufort. After a prolonged illness he retired from the ministry and went back to engineering. He retired from Charlotte County, Florida, after serving 10 years as transportation engineer. In 2003, Mr. Millard was named “Transportation Engineer Of The Year” by the Florida section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Jean Branham Millard, and his children, Catherine Bunch of Missouri and Julia DePalma (Tom) of Florida; two sons, David Millard (Joanne) of Beaufort and John Millard of Beaufort; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister, Josefa Smoak (Jerry) of Mt. Pleasant.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Charlotte Randolph; his sisters, Valin Janus and Ann Ellerbee; and brothers, David Wardlaw Millard and Moses Kenyon “Nick” Millard Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024, in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Ashley, the Rev. Eddie Richardson and the Rev. Ron Davis officiating.
Burial will follow in the Ashwood Baptist Church Cemetery, 1075 Lake Ashwood Road, Sumter, (Lee County).
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
