Funeral services for the Rev. Abraham Temoney Sr. will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Beulah AME Church, 3175 Florence Hwy., Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Dwayne Bruce officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The public may view Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Palmer Memorial Chapel, 304 S. Main St., Sumter.

The Rev. Abraham Temoney Sr. transitioned on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia. He was married to his loving wife, First Lady Agnes Wilson Temoney, for 51 years. The Rev. Temoney was born in Mayesville, on May 21, 1951, to the late Robert Sr. and Vermell McCauley Temoney.

The Rev. Temoney graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in Elliott. He attended Morris College in Sumter. He also attended L.B. Burgess School of Religion in Florence.

The Rev. Temoney joined Beulah African Methodist Episcopal Church in Sumter at the early age of 16 and served faithfully. In 1973, the Rev. Temoney answered his call into the ministry.

In 1979, the Rev. Temoney and First Lady Agnes Wilson Temoney were appointed to St. John AME Church in Longs, S.C. They served in the Northeast Annual Conference and the Columbia Annual Conference. He also pastored at the following churches: LaGree AME in Sumter, Reeder Point AME in Columbia, Mount Sinai AME in Elgin, St. Luke AME in Eastover and James Chapel AME in Lugoff. The Rev. Temoney was also employed by B.L. Montague Co., Sunbelt Distributors and Georgia Pacific. His last employment position was a supervisor with the City of Sumter Parks and Recreation for 23 years, and he was well known for his jovial spirit and ministering to the incarcerated men.

Survivors are his devoted wife, First Lady Agnes Wilson Temoney of the home; three sons, the Rev. Abraham Jr. (Lady LaTasha) of Sumter, Jeffery (Angelia) of Blythewood and Derrick of the home; a daughter, Dr. Sharon (Deron) Temoney Brown of Sumter; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four brothers, Jeremiah (Ella) Temoney of Dalzell, Parish Temoney of Sumter, the Rev. Archie (Henrietta) Temoney Sr. of Sumter, Presiding Elder the Rev. Dr. Herbert (Kimberly) Temoney Sr. of Florence and Earthly Richardson, raised as a brother, of Elliott; three sisters, Maggie Mae Temoney Richardson of Baltimore, Maryland, the Rev. Temoney’s twin sister, Sarah Temoney Durant of Elliott, and Annie Mae Temoney Brailsford of Wedgefield; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Ethel Temoney McCauley, Ruth Temoney, Lue Emma Temoney Johnson and Marie Temoney Manzano; and five brothers, Sammy L. Temoney, Robert Temoney Jr., James Temoney, Mack Temoney and Toby Temoney.
