A large, pink suspect is wanted by the Sumter Police Department.

“Whether former pet or intended produce, this fellow has been wreaking havoc in the Freedom Boulevard area,” the Sumter Police Department said in a Facebook post Monday.

Sumter officers began receiving calls about a “large, pink and elusive” pig over the weekend, and many have commented on the post claiming the animal has damaged their yards.

“This is not a laughing matter for these residents whose property was damaged by this animal,” the police department said. “Its size alone is of concern, and we ask that you not try to approach it.”

According to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the Sumter Police Department, officers are continuing to search for the pig and its owner. The state Department of Natural Resources is assisting.

If you see the animal or know who the owner could be, call the Sumter Police Department at (803) 436-2700.
