KERSHAW - Michael Ellis Cook Sr., age 71, of Kershaw, passed away on Friday evening, March 20, 2020, at KershawHealth Medical Center, Camden.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of Sarah Coleen McCoy Cook Reyling and the late Ellis Pike Cook. Mr. Cook was a graduate of Mayewood High School, attended Baptist College of Charleston (now Charleston Southern University) and received a bachelor's degree from Limestone College. Mr. Cook was married to the late Judy Catoe Cook, who predeceased him on Nov. 29, 2018.

Surviving in addition to his mother and his stepfather, Jack Reyling, are three children, Michael Ellis Cook Jr. and his wife, Lane Deason Cook, of Hickory, North Carolina, Benjamin Parrish Cook of Camden and James Willis Cook and his wife, Christine Ariana Cook, of Bluffton; four grandchildren, Catelyn McCoy Cook, Caroline Ellis Cook, Samuel Elias Cook and Wade Marshall Cook; a sister, Christine Cook Mixon and her husband, Dean Mixon; and several nieces and nephews.

Michael took pride in showing his children and grandchildren how to fish and cook. He was a long-term generous supporter of the Central High School Booster Club and athletics, and his love for his sons and grandchildren spilled over into his avid support of their many endeavors. He was a beloved State Farm Insurance agent in Pageland for more than 30 years. Michael was a devoted husband to his late wife of 50 years, and they enjoyed spending time together with family and friends at the beach and on the water, especially the Edisto River.

Mr. Cook will be laid to rest in Kershaw City Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date by Baker Funeral Home.
