OLANTA - Johnny Player, son of the late Jace Green and Mary McDowell Player, died Jan. 29, 2011, after an extended illness.

He was born April 4, 1929. He attended Clarendon and Sumter public schools. Prior to his illness, he was gainfully employed as a construction worker.

He is survived by his children and stepchildren, Angel (Lavern) Goodman of Sumter, Cinder (Derrick) Dickey and Samuel (Della) Lee of Lynchburg, Leroy Lee, Gary Lee of Olanta, Shirley (Bryant) Gee, Isabella Lowery of Lynchburg, Willie (Bertha Mae) Lee of Timmonsville, Andrew (Willie Mae) Lee of Georgia, Wamp Green of New Jersey and Johnnie Mae Witherspoon of Darlington; eight brothers and sisters, Janie Mae, Runette, Macy, Nell, Mary, Hattie, Annie Ruth and Jace; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Emwell Baptist Church, Olanta, with Elder William Boyd Jr., eulogist. Burial followed in St. Mark cemetery.

The family received friends at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Angel and Lavern Goodman, 1024 Nottingham Road, Sumter.
