Jody Allen Truett, 53, loving husband of Wanda B. Truett, departed this life on Saturday, April 10, 2021, in Sumter.

He was born on Sept. 24, 1967, to the late Carl and Virginia Truett. Jody was born and raised in Sumter. He built his own business, C & J Auto Sales, and sank his roots into the Sumter community with his paint work and used car sales. Jody was a long-time competitor at Sumter Speedway. He began his racing career in 1984 at the speedway and, throughout his 35 years of racing, won numerous races and track championships. Many people always said that he was the hardest person to pass on the track. His love of racing was always shown each and every week. He helped many others get involved in the sport and shared his knowledge to anyone that wanted to listen. Whether he was competing himself or just helping others, he absolutely loved the sport and will forever be remembered as one of the greatest to wheel a car around the track.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Virginia Truett; and one brother, Eddie Truett.

He leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Wanda B. Truett; two children, Virginia Welch (Tim) and Cody Truett (Amber); five grandchildren, Allison Truett, Hannah Welch, Macy Welch, Zoey Truett and CJ Truett; two brothers, CW Truett (Faye) and Mike Truett; one sister, Janet Truett; a special niece, Dana Hill (Adam); a special nephew, Marty Horne; and numerous other nieces, nephews and friends.
