Inez G. Bennett, wife of Esau Bennett, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Born Aug. 29, 1948, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Nathaniel Lawson and Major Stukes Lawson.

She attended Clarendon County public schools, graduating from Scott's Branch High School in 1967.

Inez was employed by Panramic View in Montauk, N.Y., for over 25 years. She was a lifelong member of Liberty Hill AME Church in Summerton. Upon returning to South Carolina from New York, she also attended worship services at Sunrise International Church, Summerton.

Survivors beside her husband include three sons, Levan Major Bennett of Summerton, Eric (Shareefah) Bennett of Newark, N.J., and Derrick Bennett of Summerton; a father-in-law, Charles "Mann" Bennett; and six brothers and sisters, William K. Lawson, Joenathan (Martha) Lawson, Marjorie Carter, Pastor Elliott (Bessie) Lawson, Mozell Ragin and Carrie (Roosevelt) Watson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at the Historic Liberty Hill AME Church, with the pastor, Dr. Leslie Lovett, officiating, and assisted by the Rev. Powell Lawson, eulogist, the Rev. Dr. W.T. Johnson, Elliott Lawson, and Juanita Lawson. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at the home, 1525 Lilly Martin Road, Summerton.
