IDA MAE McDOWELL-SMALL

Ida Mae McDowell-Small, 79, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024. She was born in Mayesville to the late Logan and Estelle Hudson Murphy. She was married to Lacy McDowell 1970-1974 and to Joe Small 1979-1993. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, Elliott, and soon after left for New York to go after her dreams. She spent most of her life in Washington, D.C.  In 2005, she returned to Lynchburg, where she would be close to family.  
She is survived by her children: Coresa McDowell (Al), Lacy McDowell (Helen Kristina Conkle); three grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Murphy; and her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of  Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. J. Elbert Williams officiating.
Burial will be in the Mayesville Cemetery, Mayesville.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 38 Log Road, Lynchburg.
