Homicide investigation launched after Lee CI inmate found unresponsive in cell

South Carolina Department of Corrections is investigating the death of a Lee Correctional Institution inmate as a homicide. 

At about 9:35 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, Justin Henderson, 40, was found unresponsive in his cell with multiple stab wounds, according to SCDC.  

He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital at 11:07 p.m. 

No other injuries were reported. An autopsy will be performed. 

Henderson’s death is being investigated as a homicide by SCDC Inspector General’s Office, SLED Crime Scene Division and Lee County Coroner’s Office.
